2010 SAG Awards nominations/nominees list | 16th SAG Awards
The 2010 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations / nominees will be announced this Thursday, December 17, 2009 echoing earlier Golden Globes who announced their nominations last night. Michelle Monaghan and Chris O’Donnell will join SAG president Ken Howard to announce the nominees for the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The said awards nominations will be for the 16th SAG Awards to be held early next year, 2010. It has been known to many, specially for Oscar Academy Award watchers, that the SAG Award nominations are considered a forerunner of Oscar acting nominations.
Many previous Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominees usually also get nominated in the Oscars, and many previous SAG winners have likewise gone on to take the most coveted prize of them all. However, A SAG win is not by any means a guarantee of an Oscar. Take last year as an example. Though last year’s SAG lead actor winner, Sean Penn, won the best acting Oscar for his performance in “Milk,” the Screen Actors Guild lead actress winner, Meryl Streep, didn’t duplicate the accomplishment. Meryl Streep, who was nominated for “Dought,” lost to Kate Winslet, who played Hanna in “The Reader.” But still, a SAG win is one of the most prestigious awards an actor can receive in Hollywood, and the SAG Awards have been one of the major awards events since 1995. Nominations for the awards come from 4200 randomly selected members of the union, with the full membership (120,000 as of 2007) available to vote for the winners.
Watch the 16th Annual SAG Awards 2010 winners on January 23, 2010 to be held at the Shrine Exposition Center and will stream/aired live on TNT and TBS at 8/7c.
The list of nominations/nominees for the 2010 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards will be posted here as soon as the names are announced.
